Making Monday : Caking and Castle-ing

I’ve been full steam ahead with my Dover Castle this week. It is a nice pattern, easy to do, and it would be easy to remember normally but I’m quite forgetful at the moment so it is easy to follow. The only wrinkle I can forsee is that it will be quite little even when blocked so more of a neckerchief than a shawl.

I am toying with using a slightly different colour and completely different yarn to make the edging with or going completely wild and using a different colour for the edging all together as I do have a skein of the same yarn in grey. The beauty of the pattern is that the edging can be as deep as you like so that is a very tempting prospect.

My friend Jan came for lunch today and I quickly made some little cakes for us. I used the Bakewell Cake recipe that I cooked for Tamyra’s birthday but made little cupcakes instead of a full cake in some silicone moulds I had in the cupboard – quick, easy, and no faffing. They were very popular.

Jan brought me a little flower display she’d made for me. It was really gorgeous. Lucky me

Tamyra seems to be taking an awful lot of interest in those beautiful flowers. She may been an intervention.

I think gray edging would look nice. And those cakes look scrumptious!

See, that is a lovely shawl. I knew I’d need to make one.
Also: little cakes! Yummy!

Beautiful flowers!! And what a clever idea to make little cup cakes instead of one big cake. I like that idea.
